I started my research in 1995 at the Sacro Cuore Hospital in Negrar, Verona. Here, thanks to close collaboration with the Institute of Human Physiology (University of Verona), in particular with Prof. Giovanni Berlucchi and Prof. Salvatore Maria Aglioti, I participated in research projects on attentional disorders and unilateral spatial neglect in brain damaged patients. During my PhD period, my research also included the study of the neural basis of cerebral plasticity and its implications in the rehabilitation of patients affected by stroke, or traumatic brain injury. Subsequently, my research themes have extended to include the biological correlates of body and face visual perception and action discrimination and to their specific disorders after lesions of the central and peripheral nervous system.

As to the rehabilitation implication, my research aims to investigate awareness of pathology and the potential for recovery in various different clinical conditions in an interdisciplinary perspective. An important topic of my laboratory research (NPSY.Lab-VR, http://profs.formazione.univr.it/npsy-labvr/) concerns body, space and action representations in healthy subjects and patients. Specific attention is devoted to the neuroanatomical investigation of patients' lesions. I am the coordinator of the European Platform for Research in Spinal Cord Injury (SCI-Research. Group, http://profs.formazione.univr.it/npsy-labvr/spinal-cord-injury-research-center/). In addition, my research focuses on the deficits of awareness in neurological diseases like stroke and mental deterioration.

I have also been highly engaged in disseminating my research to the general public (e.g., Science Festival; http://www.infinitamente-verona.it/; Kids University; Neurosciences at school ).

Thanks to my background in education and my close research contacts with experts in domains like neurology, rehabilitation, anthropology, I am also involved in Education of staff in Departments of Rehabilitation and Schools, in Education of patients relatives and caregivers.
