- Short description of contents:
- Antonio Rosmini is the author of a philosophical system centered on the concept of being. Being is finite or infinite, and is understood by the human being in three modes—ideal being (the ideas it entertains), real being (the things it sees around itself), and moral being (its free and intelligent actions). Always taking the point of view of ontology, Rosmini wrote his own logic, metaphysics, theory of cognition, ethics, anthropology, philosophy of right, and philosophy of politics. But his studies extended also into mathematics, theology, law, education, and many other sciences. His system provides thus a sort of encyclopaedia of wisdom. The aim of this paper is to inform on Rosmini’s life and thought (sections I, II, and VIII) and to provide an extensive review of the works by Rosmini on theory of cognition (section III), ethics (section IV), philosophy of right (section V), and philosophy of society (section VI) that have been translated to date into English by the Reverends Denis Cleary and Terence Watson at the Rosmini House in Durham.
