The psychological literature on emotion regulation (ER) has recently focused on the strategies that people adopt to cope with highly distressful situations. This study examines the ER dynamics that nurses use in distress situations caused by caring for patients. In particular, the interest is in observing how nurses in emergency departments cope with high distress situations, comparing them with colleagues in other clinical areas. It will be investigated whether and how the work context influences the use of specific ER strategies
