Sara Salmi is an anthropologist with extensive experience as a project manager and researcher, specializing in the design and implementation of psychosocial and mental health interventions in humanitarian and migratory settings. She has led programmes and conducted research in Europe and Nepal, supporting populations facing vulnerability and marginalization. Her work is rooted in participatory and community-based approaches, integrating community engagement into both emergency response and long-term intervention strategies.
Her main areas of work and research include:
Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) for displaced and vulnerable populations
Participatory and community-based approaches
Cultural adaptation of evidence-based interventions by non-specialist providers
Human rights, migration and climate-induced migration, and anti-discrimination within the EU
Field-based qualitative research and intersectional context analysis
Art-based participatory research on urban child poverty, inequalities, and segregation
Advocacy and bridging the gap between policy and practice, including informing and reshaping local policies and strategies for the wellbeing of all children and young people
