My main research area is ancient philosophy, and especially Plato. I am also interested in Plato’s relationship with Greek literary tradition and with the philosophical debate in Athens between V and IV century B.C. My PhD research project on the concept of πόνος in Plato is part of a wider research interest for the problem of pain and suffering in ancient philosophy and literature. While the problem of pleasure in ancient philosophy has been hotly debated, pain (of the body) and suffering (of the soul) have received comparatively little attention. I intend to explore this topic bringing together philosophical, philological, and literary tools. I am convinced that research in ancient philosophy should not be confined to the historical and philological approach: this is the reason why I am also interested in Twentieth-century readings of Plato, with special reference to the theme of the care for the soul (Hadot, Foucault, Patočka).
