Learning outcomes

For this course, a double objective has been identified.
Firstly, to facilitate the acquisition of knowledge and skills concerning the methods and tools that an expert in the training processes could apply to carry out research in the educational and training fields. It is the teacher's intention to focus, in particular, on the ecological perspective, where the formative experience and action of the researcher overlap to enhance the experience of professionals, to gain a meaningful learning.
Secondly, to facilitate the understanding of the transformative role of the figure of the trainer, through the introduction of research and reflection opportunities, as well as the participation and design of training devices based on the active pedagogical-didactic approach.

Syllabus

CONTENTS
- Epistemological perspectives of the pedagogical research;
- Methods and techniques for a research contextualized within the ecological paradigm;
- Field research: from the definition of the research question to the development of an emerging theory;
- Active teaching approach: the transformative potential of the training processes
- Reflecting on experience: when training and research collide.

DIDACTIC APPROACH
The flipped learning educational and didactic approach will be adopted: there will be proposed both distance activities with the support of Moodle platform, and classroom activities, where will be implemented laboratory exercises aimed at a collaborative and experiential learning. The adoption of the flipped learning approach is also aimed at facilitating the development of key competences in the lifelong learning perspective.

Assessment methods and criteria

The final exam consists of two parts:
A) an oral (for attending students) or written (for non-attending students) exam aimed at verifying the achievement of the objectives of knowledge;
B) a research exercise aimed at verifying the achievement of the objectives of competence.
The overall grade will be calculated through the arithmetic average of the total score obtained in the two parts of the final exam.

A) ASSESSMENT OF THE OBJECTIVES OF KNOWLEDGE

a1) ATTENDING STUDENTS
Attending students will be evaluated throughout the whole course considering the active participation both in terms of quantity and quality of the contributions. It is also planned to draw up a portfolio which will be presented and discussed during the final exam.
a2) NON-ATTENDING STUDENTS
For non-attending students, the exam will consist of a written examination with three explicative questions and three argumentative questions. Each explicative answer allows students to get form 0/30 up to 4/30 points, each argumentative answer allows students to get form 0/30 up to 6/30 points
The student’s written will be assessed following criteria:
- Answer’s coherence with the posed questions
- Answer’s degree of deepening
- Use of scientific terminology, appropriate to treated concepts and issues

B) ASSESSMENT OF THE OBJECTIVES OF COMPETENCE

ATTENDING AND NON-ATTENDING STUDENTS
For all students, a research exercise aimed at acquiring methodological skills is also required. Its consisting elements will be communicated on the e-learning platform Moodle and during a dedicated meeting.
The research exercise must be submitted to the teacher in paper format on the day of the written exam. The evaluation criteria are the following:
- Correct data collection
- Adequacy of the data analysis
- Relevance of the emerging theory
- Completeness of materials
