Learning outcomes

The course aims at guiding students through different epistemologies that inspire educational models and related styles, terminology and practical educational experiences. In the first part of the course we will look at different philosophical approaches to personal training and development, learning how to think philosophically. In the second part, using the city as a specific context for learning, we will expand on the central theme.

Syllabus

The course this year will be based on “Self-development and developing/educating by living in and experiencing the city and its territories”. We will look at various areas of self-development and development/education in the city and its surrounding territories intended as contexts for learning. We will find out how men and women experience and interpret them, how people and organizations self-develop and become self-determining by altering relationships and contexts to regain possession of life and living. We will look in detail particularly at two contemporary movements: consumerism and critical production (different economies: Gas, Des, time banks, etc.), and examples of urban situations (processes of urban improvements, city parks and gardens and use of public areas) .
The course consists of lectures, situations of active participation by the students, guest speakers and laboratory activities.

Assessment methods and criteria

For those who attend the course the exam will consist of a written test and an oral presentation at the end of the course.
For those not attending, the exam will consist of an oral test based on the bibliography indicated in the program.
