Learning outcomes

The course aims to provide students with an adequate level of knowledge about Social Psychology: theoretical references, the main models, the most common research methods and its areas of application for people and organizations.

Syllabus

The Social Psychology works in several areas of individual and collective life in which psychological processes are structured with the practical activities of people, and the dynamics of organizations and social institutions.

The course offers an overview of Social Psychology, explaining in a systematic way the different theories and describing empirical results achieved over the years. The analysis will take place either at the basic processes of social life (such as those involved in cognition, emotion, communication, motivation and action), or at the level of phenomena that these processes are working to build in the social-interaction area (attitudes, prejudices, social representations, social influence, self and identity construction).

Key concepts of social psychology - Origin and development of social psychology - Knowledge and representation of the social world - The interpersonal dimension - The group dimension - The organizational dimension - Social Influence - Problems related to theoretical and methodological choices in psychosocial research.

Teaching methods: traditional lessons integrated with active learning and presence of expert people’s witnesses.

Assessment methods and criteria

How the exams will take place will be communicated in detail during the first lessons of the course. It includes a written test and the possibility of an oral part. Subjects of assessment will be the main contents of the textbook and the topics covered during lessons. The teacher will provide students with suitable supporting material.
