The Erasmus+ 2022 KA2 project “AI Pioneers” focuses on the promotion and integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in adult education and vocational education and training (VET). The main objective is to develop a reference network of AI Pioneers, including trainers, stakeholders, policy makers and educational planners, who will serve as reference points for the design and implementation of future AI-related educational projects at regional, national and European levels. These AI Pioneers, inspired by the DigCompEdu Framework, are described as innovators and leaders in digital pedagogical practices, experimenting with highly innovative digital technologies and novel pedagogical approaches.

The project also includes the production of recommendations, toolkits and guidelines for implementing AI at the organizational and systemic levels. Specific goals include the development of a supplement to the DigCompEDU Framework, which describes educators' competencies regarding the use of AI in education. The project aims to identify, develop and pilot use cases of AI in education, considering the impact on data, privacy, ethics and EU values, and to produce ethical guidelines for the responsible use of AI in adult education and VET.

The sustainability of the project will be ensured through the AI Pioneers Network, which will continue to operate after the funding ends, supported by the EDEN network. The network will serve as a key tool for mainstreaming and implementing the project results at a systemic and practical level across the EU, promoting innovation and digital inclusion in education.

In addition, the project will organize workshops, events, and activities for network members, as well as develop open educational resources and tools to support the use of AI in adult education and VET. These efforts will contribute to the digital transformation of education by improving access to education and supporting the development of digital skills among educators and trainers.
