Federica De Cordova is a researcher of social psychology at the Departement of Human Science. Her research focuses on identity and culture, highlighting the intersection between cultural development, historical context and psychological processes. I am particularly interested in cultural constraints on self-definition within specific contexts, and how such constraints affect both individuals who define themselves through them and the ones who do not adapt to them. From this point of view her investigations deepen our understanding of the personal process of negotiation between the individual and collective level in order to gain individual agency. Developing her research mostly within minority groups especially in relationship with health care institutions. I am primarily oriented towards qualitative methods (in depth interviews, case studies, focus group, ethnographies, creative methods). Her research topic are: Culture and healing systems, Trauma, memory and agency, Female genital mutilation and migration, Self construction in second generation youth, Cultural linguistic mediation in clinical psychology, Same sex parenthood and non-biological parental bonds.
