Giorgio Erle dedicates his research to the relationship between the practical and theoretical spheres of philosophy: from this perspective, he analyzed the emergence of themes of ethical relevance in Hegel's "Philosophy of Nature"; he then continued studying these aspects also in the philosophy of music present in the thought of Leibniz and German Idealism. His research on the ethical values of care, as a form of responsibility towards the "polis," also fits into a "harmonic" understanding of reality, with particular reference to the theme of the duty of truthfulness and the ethical community in the context of classical German philosophy and also in the context of the mind/body problem, concerning the ethical themes of the philosophy of medicine, the ethics of relationships and the ethics of harmony. His most recent research concerns the "legacy" of German Idealism in contemporary ethical thought, mainly referring to authors such as H. Jonas and K.-O. Apel.
