Learning outcomes

The course is aimed to understand the ethical relationship particularly referring to Communication Ethics and to the rational grounding of Ethics. At the end of the course, the student will have to demonstrate knowledge and skills referring to challenging texts and to their interpretation and also to be able to open a wide reflection on these ethical subjects.

Syllabus

Responsibility as an Imperative: the ethical relationship according to Hans Jonas.
The program aims at analyzing and discussing Hans Jonas’ philosophical perspective about the ethical and relational meaning of responsibility referring to such issues as:
- The ethical consideration about the action of the human being, technology and the relationship with Nature;
- Responsibility and future;
- Foundations and method of ethics: principles and duties;
- The concept of purpose and the ethical meaning of final cause;
- Good, being and duty;
- Paradigms of the theory of responsibility according to Hans Jonas;
- Jonas’ ethics within the phenomenological context.

Assessment methods and criteria

For both attending and non-attending students the exam consists of an oral test concerning the program and the reading list. To pass the exam, students will have to demonstrate that they have achieved the learning outcomes: acquired knowledge, interpretation and ethical reflection skills will be verified referring to course program and reading list.
