The course will explore contemporary Italian language.
We'll begin from fundamental concepts of Descriptive Linguistics, analyzing different sociolinguistic varieties: diamesic, diastratic, diaphasic, diatopic dimensions and special languages (with a brief description of linguistic minorities and dialects).
Another point of reference will be the Italian grammar and the concept of rule violation.
In order to make the lectures more interesting for the teaching profession, we'll discuss the main approaches about teaching Italian language.
The course consists of lectures and practicing.
We'll focus on skills.
The main fields are:
- Principles on Descriptive Linguistics;
- The scientific study of the language (manuals, dictionaries, repertoires, databases);
- Different forms of analysis: phonology, morphology, syntax, text, pragmatics, vocabulary;
- Sociolinguistic varieties;
- The Italian language between innovation and preservation;
- The violation of rules;
- Italian language and Language Teaching.

The final assessment will be written and based on the lectures and the bibliography.
There will be exercises of transcription and analysis and open questions.
