Learning outcomes

Political-institutional overview of the ancient Italian states before the unification; implication of economic and social changes in the different areas of Italy in the last 5 centuries; events of the territories of northern Italy in the modern age.

Syllabus

Contents of the course: the system of the ancient Italian states; republics and principalities; “Spanish” and “Austrian” Italy; new and old states; Napoleon and the crisis of ancient states.
