My research focuses on topics related to cognitive and social neuroscience, such as body representation, vicarious affective touch, and chronic pain, with a primary emphasis on clinical populations.
I began working on these topics during my Ph.D. and have continued during my current position as a research fellow at the Department of Human Sciences at the University of Verona and at the NPSY.Lab-VR (http://profs.formazione.univr.it/npsy-labvr/).
Specifically, I focus on body representation and interoception (the ability to perceive visceral signals coming from within our body), particularly in relation to spinal cord injuries, neurological conditions, and chronic pain. Additionally, another line of research I am involved in specifically addresses women with fibromyalgia, exploring topics more closely related to social neuroscience, such as the perception of vicarious affective and social touch in virtual reality in the presence of chronic pain.
My research relies on the integration of various approaches and methodologies, including virtual reality, psychophysiological and neurophysiological measures, and behavioral assessments.
As a member of NPSY.Lab-VR, I collaborate with various clinical centers and national and international research groups working on body representation, such as the European Platform for Research in Spinal Cord Injury (SCI-Research Group) and the BRNet, Body Representation Network.
