The object of this research is an exploratory investigation aimed at grasping the level of penetration in the Italian reality of the problems related to the new forms of procreation.
In Italy the phenomenon of medically assisted procreation had a weak resonance at the time of approval of the Law n. 40 on medically assisted procreation: a law subject to a confirmatory referendum that saw a very low turnout of citizens at the polls (for which the law was not repealed) and that the Constitutional Court has 'dismantled' in all its aspects. On the occasion of the approval of the law on civil unions for same-sex subjects, a wide debate on the child adoption step has come on and the theme of motherhood and surrogate parenthood has come to the fore. Since then, the press has frequently reported on these issues, but the news has not always allowed us to get an idea of the social implications that new procreation practices have. The theme is complex, extremely differentiated positions and the same techniques of assisted reproduction are not easy to understand. In addition, often in the press and in the mass media, news and non-contextualized facts are bouncing that does not help to get an idea of the reason for the dispute. But, despite everything, new cards are being inserted into our imaginations. Hence the need to probe what kind of knowledge is 'high' that 'common sense' have of these new forms of procreation.
