The aim of the study was to explore the motivations that prompted volunteers to become active during the Covid-19 emergency period and their motivations/intentions to continue volunteering in the future, after the emergency had ended. The research data were collected during the period April-June 2020. An online questionnaire administered towards the end of phase 1 of the health emergency for Covid-19 to a representative sample of the Italian population was used.
Objectives were: to get to know the characteristics of the volunteers and to investigate their previous experience of volunteering; to assess whether this experience translates into a willingness to continue in the future with more structured forms of volunteering; to understand possible factors (sense of community, political attitude, trust in others and in institutions, individual resilience, self-efficacy) that may have favoured participation in the voluntary activities promoted during the pandemic.
