The CERC (Caring Education Research Center) is an interdepartmental research center born from the collaboration between the Department of Human Sciences and the Department of Diagnostics and Public Health.
The CERC’s aim is to develop research in the following areas:

CARVET - Centre for Action Research in Vocational Education and Training
The Center, which brings together researchers and teachers, has the purpose of carrying out research, counselling and training in the field of vocational education and training.
The Center acts as hub for interdisciplinary advanced research and promotes the dialogue between different methods, combining theoretical and empirical research, at an interdisciplinary level (psychology, education, philosophy, sociology, laws), adhering to qualitative, quantitative and mixed method research approaches.
Centro di Ricerca E.T.h.O.S - Ethics and Technologies Of the Self
The Research Center works on the problem of the Contemporary, particularly on how the technologies of the self and the technologies of the living create peculiar forms pf subjectivation and peculiar ethical issues.
Ciesseci - Centre for Community Development. Research-intervention for the psycho-social wellbeing of individuals, organisations and communities
The “Centre for Community Development. Research-intervention for the psycho-social wellbeing of individuals, organisations and communities” was set up by Federica de Cordova, Anna Maria Meneghini and Riccardo Sartori, with the aim of opening up an inter/transdisciplinary research space that crosses social, dynamic and cultural psychology and finds its place in the theoretical and methodological framework of community psychology. The approach is characterised by a constant search for interdisciplinary dialogue with other disciplines such as organisational psychology, clinical psychology, sociology, cultural anthropology, pedagogy, public health, etc.
The centre's focus of interest lies in the empirical study of psychosocial processes related to well-being and in the development of tools and methods of intervention and training to pursue this well-being, consistent with community development.
Preferred, but not exclusive, environments of intervention are public services (social, health, educational, etc.), the third sector (voluntary work, cooperatives, associations, etc.), and private services (companies, etc.).
In addition to an inter- and transdisciplinary approach, the Centre is inspired by the guiding principles of ecology, considering micro, meso and macro systems as levels of analysis of dynamic processes. Therefore, subjectivity and psychosocial processes are understood according to an intersectional perspective, which considers subjectivity as an interrelationship between personal characteristics, social roles, organisational and cultural attributes: it is by taking this richness and complexity into account that resources and criticalities can be intercepteand empowerment processes developed. The Centre's main interests are the psychosocial and community dynamics at the origin of discrimination and social inequalities, and the processes responsible for their social reproduction, with a view to valorising and recognising diversity.
Further characterisation of the Centre consists in positioning itself epistemologically with an active responsibility of the researcher, whereby the moment of empirical analysis is always guided by action for change, according to the methodological framework of research-intervention. This participatory methodological approach is fully in line with the perspective of community empowerment, the basis for the promotion of well-being, working on existing and potential community resources̀. The methodological orientation is therefore open to innovative, multi-method and participatory empirical research methods, with a strong focus on giving voice to all actors without invisibilising minority subjects.
Privileged study topics are therefore processes and practices of social and labour inclusion, active participation in workplaces and citizenship processes, social justice, prevention of violence and exploitation, with a focus on socio-cultural dynamics that foster hegemonic processes in communities, social and cultural capital.
The centre's activities consist of research, consultancy, project design, documentation, publishing activities, also in collaboration with other public and private entities and institutions.

Education and Didactics Research Centre
The CRED (Center of Educational and Didactic Research), instituted in the Department of Human Sciences of the University of Verona,in December 2008, projects, realizes and evaluates researches on education, training and didactics. One of its aims is the promotion of methodological reflection, in particular concerning the qualitative research on educational and instructional processes. The CRED organizes conferences, seminars and courses for educational practitioners. Every venture is aimed at creating a relationship between university and community in order to disclose and give value to practitioners’ knowledge as well as to work in partnership with other institutions.
Specific areas of interests of the CRED are the following:
* counselling to school;
* qualitative research in educational contexts and services;
* elaboration of pedagogical theories on the basis of empirical researches;
* teacher education about reflectivity and research;
* building of educational paths for schools.

Hannah Arendt Center
The Hannah Arendt Center for Political Studies, founded in 2016, is a research institution that aims at connecting Arendtian academic scholarship with present-oriented political research from an interdisciplinary perspective that brings together the human and social sciences. To this end, the Center brings together scholars involved in different research areas and relies on a wide network of scientific relationships and collaborations, both national and international.
As a place of research, the Center addresses both theoretical and historical aspects of the “Arendtian studies”. It also addresses important emerging political issues for a better understanding of the contemporary world, such as: political freedom, public happiness and democracy; citizenship, power and violence, inclusion and exclusion; the impact of globalization processes on the political sphere, the growing political relevance of economics and international law; political implications of economic and social change in late modernity, also with reference to educational and professional processes.
A specific interest is reserved to the political dimensions of issues traditionally associated with the private sphere, such as sexuality and gender, maternity, care and vulnerability.
As a place for public debate and democratic training, the “Hannah Arendt” Center aims to extend the practice of philosophical and political thinking beyond academic and/or professional boundaries, qualifying as an educational site at large, where cultural debates take place, in collaboration with others active in the public sphere. We intend to promote critical thinking and diffuse knowledge and debates on politics and the “world we have in common”.
HEMOT – Helmet for EMOTions
The Center of Research in Psychology “HEMOT – Helmet for EMOTions”, instituted in the Department of Human Sciences of the University of Verona in December 2021, conducts and promotes research activities on emotional competence and resilience regarding both positive and stressful/traumatic events, such as disasters and emergencies. The activities are based on a psychological perspective and involve children, adolescents and adults, focusing on the whole life course. The center designs and implements training activities to foster psychological resilience, integrating different methodologies, taking advantage of the benefits of the new technologies, and involving several participants and stakeholders.
The activities of the center HEMOT regard:
- Base and applied research, also including activities such as design, training, counselling and dissemination
- Participation to projects, provisions of fellowship/PhD scholarships and other initiatives aimed at consolidating study and research paths of the center

- Coronavirus and emotions (COEM): longitudinal research (from March 2020 and still ongoing) to evaluate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the emotions and the coping strategies of the University of Verona students.
- Emotional Prevention and Pandemics: Development of the Pand-HEMOT Web-application (Pandemics-Helmet for EMOTions) for Children and Adolescents: project funded by the Ministry of University and Research (Bando FISR 2020 COVID; from October 2021 to March 2022) aimed at developing and testing a web application focused on pandemics, safety measures, emotions and coping strategies, for primary and lower-secondary school students.
- Emotional Prevention and Earthquakes in primary school (PrEmT): project funded by Fondazione Cariverona (Bando Ricerca Scientifica 2017; from March 2018 to March 2022) aimed at designing and implementing an evidence-based training with digital (through a web application) and traditional activities on earthquakes, safety behaviors, emotions and coping strategies, for primary school students.
Household consumption monitoring centre
The Household consumption monitoring centre at the Department of Human Sciences at the University of Verona was founded by a group of sociologists currently in the Department who specialise in consumption issues. It has evolved from a previous observatory established in collaboration with the SWG research company in Trieste. The aim of the Household consumption monitoring centre is to develop and disseminate studies and observations on the world of consumption both in terms of results and research methodology. In addition to research linked to specific contexts, the Household consumption monitoring centre monitors the consumption strategies and lifestyle of Italian families, currently on a two-yearly basis, and produces research reports that summarise the main phenomena identified through its work. The scientific output of the Household consumption monitoring centre can be found in media reports, the Italian Sociological Review, the book series “Sociologia e Ricerca Sociale” published by QuiEdit in Verona, and the book series “Strutture e culture sociali” published by FrancoAngeli in Milan.
INCLUSION & DIVERSITY INTERDISCIPLINARY RESEARCH CENTER
Over the past few decades, the world has witnessed many profound social, economic, and social changes that have sharply affected human communities internationally, nationally, and locally. One of the consequences of these large-scale trends is that diversity and inclusion have become one of the most critical and challenging issues facing communities and organizations worldwide.
The ID Interdisciplinary Research Center, Inclusion & Diversity, at a time when rapid economic, demographic and social changes are redefining human communities internationally, nationally, and locally, aims to enhance the scientific knowledge on diversity and inclusion and to significantly contribute to the bottom-up redefinition of socio-relational paradigms, in terms of equity and social justice, through the collaboration with local institutions and non-profit groups.
By virtue of its key role, the topic of diversity and inclusion is currently addressed in various scientific fields. Also, for this reason, in placing the relationships between people, groups and institutions at the heart of its activities, the ID Interdisciplinary Research Center assumes an interdisciplinary perspective, by focusing on intersectionality, recognition, and mutual respect as core issues.
By adopting an interdisciplinary approach that combines education, social psychology, and sociology theories and methods, the ID Interdisciplinary research center aims to:
• serve as a generative space where issues surrounding diversity and inclusion can be conceptualized, explored, nurtured, shared and promoted.
• create opportunities for the recognition of diversity in its many forms (gender, social status, religious, cultural, ethnic, etc.), and for inclusion in social and organizational contexts;
• increase knowledge and awareness of the existence of multiple points of view, to promote
• relational and cultural skills and their application in different contexts;
• represent a point of reference in the education of students by promoting a university environment that supports diversity and its intersectionality;
• enhance awareness of diversity into the community;
• promote the culture of recognition and respect.

"Researches of Gnoseology and Metaphysics" Centre
The "Research of Gnoseology and Metaphysics" Centre is an interdisciplinary centre for advanced researches and has research and training as its main purposes: it brings together both professors and researchers who deal with theoretical and historical studies concerning knowledge, ontology, and the issues implied in, with particular attention to the Modern and Contemporary philosophical debate.
The main reference point is the critical method of "pure elemental gnoseology" or "philosophy of immediate, elementary, whole experience" of Giuseppe Zamboni (1875-1950), but the Research Centre focuses also on the contemporary thought and, in particular, on the phenomenological and psychological disciplines.
Priorities of the "Research of Gnoseology and Metaphysics" Centre includes:
1) confirmation of the critical-experimental method as essential for the examination of the whole reality (including social ontology and relative entities);
2) reaffirmation of the central role played by human person, as experimental core of an ontology conceived in a strong sense;
3) encouragement of the investigations concerning the issue of knowledge and metaphysics, paying attention to the international debate about those topics, in a close relationship with European and international similar Research Centres.
The "Research of Gnoseology and Metaphysics" Centre intends to organize seminars, conferences, workshops on the above-mentioned topics and aims to establish relationships in order to share informations, databases, etc. with other Research Centres, Public Institutions and Private Associations operating both in the national and in the international context. It will utilise a dedicate website, in connection to the critical editions of philosophical texts and the publication of papers/essays/articles axed on the topics of the Centre and linked to its areas of interests.

Teaching and Learning Center
The “Teaching and Learning Center” of the Department of Human Sciences aims to: 1) Enhance research on Higher education on Instructional practices; 2) Support the various actors to improve the evidence-based quality of their actions, sharing a rich collection of resources (archives of educational “common goods”), offering individual and group counselling, organizing and accompanying training sessions and promoting the practices of teachers peer-review.
The main research topics are as follows:
• Analysis of educational practices at higher education level form the teachers and students point of view
• Analysis of efficacy of specific teaching strategies (lecture, class teaching, exercises, supervision, examination, co-examination, distance teaching, inquiry learning, problem-based learning, Internet-based teaching etc.)
• Analysis of initial and in-service training for university teachers in different contexts (models, PBL courses, workshops, academic development, collegial guidance and supervision…)
• Analysis of widespread teachers and students beliefs about teaching and learning and their impact on practices
• Models for designing teaching programs and activities
• Models and tools to assess student achievements
• Models and tools to evaluate teaching
• Analysis of the effectiveness of peer supervision and mentoring on the development of competencies by teachers
• Analysis of the characteristics of repositories which could support teaching and learning

The Centre investigates intersections, influences and differences concerning philosophy and psychoanalysis.
The activities of the Centre for Research “Tiresia” focus on the intersection between philosophy and psychoanalysis.
Issues relating to the unconscious and the process of subjectification, trauma and repetition, image and voice lie at the heart of the encounter between these two different fields of knowledge and practice, of which our Centre for Research investigates the points of convergence, divergence, and mutual influence.
