The aim of the course is to analyze how different kinds of multiculturalism recognize the collective rights of the minority groups, that live toghether in the same cultural space. The hard balance between equality and diversity in the global society, between and within the social groups is the more important challenge to multicultural citizenship.
After a presentation of the general theories that focus the relationship between culture and society (culture and social system; culture and social interaction), it will be highlighted the social, economic, political and cultural processes that have modified radically the rational function of the symbolic universe related to the individual experience on the multicultural societies, which have generated the debate about the politics of recognition. The subjects discussed during the course will be the following: relationship between culture and society; identity and community; equality and diversit;, multiculturalism and politics of recognition.
