Centre Metabolé

sfds
The Centre is an interdisciplinary hub for advanced research on the ancient topic of self-care (epimeleia heautou) and philosophy as an exercise in the transformation and care of the soul (epimeleia tes psyches) throughout the history of ancient, modern and contemporary philosophy, focusing on the following areas:

1) Historical and theoretical: the study of philosophy as a transformation of the human being and the world, from antiquity to the present, in an inclusive perspective of the different forms of knowledge with which philosophy has interacted (religion, art, science);
2) formative and anthropogenetic: practices of self-care and emotional sharing in the processes of psychagogical formation (paideia, Bildung) of the human being;
3) ethical: caring relationships and the cultivation of emotions as a basic category of good practice in the various fields of ethics, both general and applied (philosophy of medicine, bioethics);
4) phenomenological and psychopathological: phenomenology of caring relationships and emotions, psychopathology of emotions, philosophical assumptions of psychiatry;
5) ecological: care of the world, philosophy and ethics of the environment.

Each year the Centre organises a series of interdisciplinary meetings. Videos of the meetings can be found in the "Archive" section. The Research Centre is associated with the online philosophy journal "Thaumàzein".
