Learning outcomes

Upon completion of the course, students will be able to: Understand and discuss the main theoretical concepts and approaches related to culture and communication in the social sciences. Critically analyze the role of digital media in the construction of identities and the representation of social problems. Apply key social research techniques to the study of digital media and communications. Use methods and tools for analyzing social media and social networks.

Syllabus

The course will cover a wide range of topics related to culture and communication, with a particular focus on new media, divided into seven main topics: Culture: The concept of culture in the social sciences, origins and classical theories. Communication Theories: An exploration of the main sociological theories of communication and their practical application. Media and Identity: Analysis of digital media in the construction of individual and collective identities. Social Issues and Media Representation: Case studies on social issues and the use of media as a tool for social change. Research Techniques: Introduction to social research techniques and their application in digital media. Media Analysis: Methods for analyzing social media and social networks, using specific software. Content Production: Creation of multimedia content, including the use of generative AI tools.
