The course aims to provide an overview of the evolution of economic thought. Ideas change in this world—and this is true for science, and even more so for economic science. The course is therefore designed to offer a comprehensive framework of these ideas, organized into schools of thought and connected both to historical developments and to current issues. In doing so, it reaffirms a fundamental and pedagogically essential teaching principle—far from abstract: nothing is as powerful in changing the world as ideas.
The program was structured into four lectures, as follows:
1. The Segmentation of the Sciences: The Case of Economics
2. Scientific Paradigms and Schools of Thought: A Map Through Time
3. Schools of Economic Thought from the 18th to the 19th Century: Key Highlights
4.Schools of Thought from the 19th Century to the Present and Summary Maps of Developments
The examination procedures, assessment criteria, and grading system, between written and oral examination, are established by law under the Prime Ministerial Decree (DPCM) of August 4, 2023.
