The aim of this module is to provide knowledge and tools for social planning and programme evaluation.
At the end of the module the student will reach:
a) knowledge of the main planning-evaluation theories and methods;
b) capability to design and implement evaluation protocols according to the guidances relative to social service quality accreditation, including excellence quality evaluation;
c) capablility of selecting suitable evaluation strategies, in various social service scenarios (i.e. level of stakeholder consensus; budget constraints; etc.)
d) acquiring means and attitudes for detecting ways and occasions of skill and knowledge updating in a changing normative and technological environment.
Objective b) and c) will be met in particular by the hours of lessons-exercise
All theoretical topics will be translated into practice during the present part of the programme, that we recall below.
- Scenarios and paradigms of programme-evaluation strategies in health and social environment
- Accreditation, certification and excellence quality
- Research models and types of evaluation: ex-ante, in-itinere; ex post evaluation
- Ex-ante evaluation techniques (I.E. Delphi, focus groups, brainstorming, SWOT)
- In itinere evaluation organisation
- A framework for evaluation protocol construction and implementation
The topics seen above will be met through the following didactic strategies
Lessons: these will be relative to objective a), in synergy with the laboratory activity of this module as well as in accordance to the other modules of this course (Research and Social Work) will concur in meeting objectives c) and d) following the guidances of the Dublin Descriptors. This is relative to the theoretical programme aspects described above, also with the contribution of external experts.
The didactic exercise will be followed in meeting objective b), that will concur with the other modules of the course to meeting objectives c) and d). In the workshop ex-ante evaluation techniques will be experimented. In addition, always in synergy with the other modules, students will be organized in small groups each of which will work on a specific social work programme (created and designed by the same students). The present module will be relative to the design of the evaluation project, en.ante and in itinere evaluation in particular.
The objective of the exam is to test the level of knowledge and applicational attitudes developed by the students during the dourse.
The exam will consist in the following.
a) test on the theoretical aspects: two open ended questions witl a maximum 600 words reply each.
b) evaluation protocol review,
Each part of the exam will be have a 30 score evaluation. The theoretical part will th weighted 20% wnile the protocl part will weight 80%. The module mark will be the weighted average of the two scores.
The exam will consist of the evaluation of written materials. The teacher will provide suggestions suring lessons but he will be available by e.mail or phone. Appointents will have to be agreed with the teacher.
There are no difference between students attending or not attending lessons. Materials will be downloaded or sent by the teacher to a collective student address.
