The lessons provide an outline of the main issues and tendencies of the historical methodology by the Greek and Latin culture.
After the course the students should be able to:
-have a general overview of the characteristics of Greek historiography;
-understand and discuss reading on Greek historiography;
-discuss main aspects of the course texts.
History of Greek Historiography, from the beginning in 5th century B.C. until to the Roman culture.
During the lessons we read excerpts of Greek historiographers (see web page). In addition the student will be expected to read supplementary literature for orientation:

M. BETTALLI (a cura di), Introduzione alla storiografia greca, Carocci, Roma 2009.
- M. PANI, Le ragioni della storiografia in Grecia e a Roma, Edipuglia Bari 2001
Prerequisite: 6 cfu in Greek History.
A good knowledge of Greek Literature, Roman History and Latin Literature, is welcomed.
If a regular attendance is not possible, the student has to contact the professor in order to have an alternative programme.

Final oral exam to assess students’ knowledge and understanding of the course aims and contents.
Students who cannot attend the lessons are invited to contact the lecturer as soon as possible.
