Learning outcomes

At the beginnings of the last century, in Spain born a philosophical movement that we could generically call “vitalism”, that had as principal figures José Ortega y Gasset and Miguel de Unamuno. Their reflexions were about a common theme: man’s life. The answers were very different (more “mystical” Unumuno, more rationalist Ortega) but they were generated by the same worry, that characterized not only the pre-war Spain but all Europe.
The course want to try a comprehension of both authors' vitalism, with their complex relationship with rationality, in attempt to have a general vision of the meaning of primum vivere, deinde philosophari.
