The course aims to introduce the basic concepts of research on media and mass culture in reference to the reflection on modernity. Particular attention will be paid to the analysis of specific cultural phenomena. The relationship, in public discourse, between memory and mass media, and between memory and experience is the theme of the monographic course.
The first part of the course will conduct a reflection on the processes of modernity and the sociology of media. The second part will analyse the specific concept of collective memory, viewed as a process of communication and construction of identity. The last part will be dedicated to the presentation of the texts for the examination.
