Learning outcomes

The course proposes to lead to a direct confrontation with some classic themes of the philosophical thinking and, on the basis of this confrontation, to stimulate and develop critical reflection and personal insight abilities.

Syllabus

Title: Ordo amoris and formation of the human being
It was Blaise Pascal who said that the heart also has its own reasons. Does a rationality exist in the affective sphere? In what sense can one speak of the order of the heart as center of personal identity? What is the use of sentiments? What is the difference between physical pain and mental suffering? What function do sentiments have in the ethics and in our way of living? The course intends to point out how the kind of the answer given to these questions implies necessarily a different way of conceiving the human being. Following mainly the positions of the German phenomenologist Max Scheler it will try to delineate a philosophical anthropology which enables us to deepen the problems of the development of the affective life and of the function which the example (Vorbild) of the otherness has in this formation (Bildung).

Texts for the exam
G. Cusinato, La totalità incompiuta, FrancoAngeli 2008

Inoltre a scelta uno dei seguenti:
