Learning outcomes

Moral philosophy investigates on the principles that either have guided or guide (or should guide) human actions in history, individually as well as socially. Through the analysis of topical stages in the history of ethics, the course aims to make the participants acquire a good degree of critical awareness about moral philosophy’s main subjects, and the most important moral problems of our time.

Syllabus

Food as a moral problem.
The course is two-folded. In its first part, the main subjects of contemporary moral reflection will be addressed with a constant reference to their historical background. In the second part, we will analyze from an ethical perspective the problem of the relation between human beings and animals. We will focus in particular on food as a moral dilemma, which necessarily implies the questioning of vegetarianism.

Texts of the course:
D. Neri, Filosofia morale, Guerini;
J. Rifkin, Ecocidio, Mondadori;
P. Singer e J. Mason, Come mangiamo, Il Saggiatore.

Assessment methods and criteria
