Learning outcomes

a) the knowledge of the history of Europe in the mediaeval Millennium; b) competence in the interpretation and in the analysis of the historical settings in which the students live, also in connection with their specific profession of educator. C) In the meantime students are directed to improve the methods of historical research guided by the teacher, through the study of the specific case of the monastery of St. Benedict at Polirone, in its Po valley enviroment, during the age of Canossas.

Syllabus

These goals are pursued :
a)with the study of the handbook: P. GOLINELLI, Breve storia dell’Europa medievale, Bologna, Pàtron, 2001, explained in the course.
b)with the CORSO MONOGRAFICO: L’abbazia di Matilde: il monastero di San Benedetto Polirone. The theme will be analyzed during lessons, in its medieval sources, in its topics, and in the study of the bibliography: Storia di San Benedetto Polirone. Le origini, Bologna, Patron, 1998 (for all the students); furthermore, for those students who cannot attend lessons, P. GOLINELLI, Matilde e i Canossa, Milano, Mursia, 2007.
c)With a personal paper discussed with the teacher (a short 10 pages essay; a film; a Computer presentation; etc.), or an oral bookreport, from the following list:
