After a High School degree in Classics (It. Liceo Classico), I earned a Bachelor degree in Physics at the University of Roma Tre, discussing the role of the electromagnetic potentials in quantum theory from the physics and philosophical standpoint; and then a Master degree at the ETH Zurich with a Master-arbeit on the integer and fractional quantum Hall effect in two-dimensional electron systems. I then moved to the Delft Technical University (TU Delft, NL) to investigate quantum transport mechanisms in nano-structures, focusing in particular on quantum magnetism, superconductivity, and thermodynamics of information. After the PhD, fulfilling my long-standing desire to do research on the conceptual dynamics and historical epistemological dimensions of science, I joined the research group “Historical Epistemology of the Final Theory Program” led by Alexander Blum at the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science in Berlin. I was then awarded a NWO Rubicon grant to pursue my own project on the conceptual connections established in the last century between condensed matter and elementary particle physics, paying particular attention to the methods and heuristic thought processes entailed in the cross-disciplinary knowledge transfer, and focusing on the role played in it by analogical and metaphorical thinking. This research has resulted in a monograph and, among others, in a university course directed to science as well as humanities students at Bard College, Berlin. Alongside research, with great eagerness I devote myself to science communication and outreach activities, experimenting in that realm with various formats including theatre and broad audience lectures, as well as co-organising a yearly event that strives to integrate the scientific discourses with reflections on humanities and society.

Dopo la maturità classica, ho conseguito la laurea triennale in Fisica presso l'Università degli Studi Roma Tre, discutendo il ruolo dei potenziali elettromagnetici nella teoria quantistica dal punto di vista fisico e filosofico; e poi un Master all'ETH di Zurigo con una tesi sull'effetto Hall quantistico intero e frazionario nei sistemi bidimensionali di elettroni. Mi sono poi trasferito alla Università di Delft (NL) per studiare i meccanismi di trasporto quantistico nelle nanostrutture, concentrandomi in particolare sul magnetismo quantistico, la superconduttività e la termodinamica dell'informazione. Dopo il dottorato di ricerca, realizzando un desiderio di lunga data di fare ricerca sulle dinamiche concettuali e la dimensione epistemologica della scienza, sono entrato a far parte del gruppo di ricerca “Historical Epistemology of the Final Theory Program” diretto da Alexander Blum presso il Max Planck Institute for the History della scienza a Berlino. Ho vinto una "Rubicon Fellowship" del Fondo Nazionale Olandese per sviluppare, presso l'Istituto, un progetto sulle relazioni concettuali stabilitesi tra materia condensata e fisica delle particelle elementari, con particolare attenzione ai metodi e ai processi di pensiero euristici e sul ruolo in essi giocato dal pensiero analogico. Questa ricerca è sfociata in una monografia per Springer (al momento in corso di stampa, qui allegata) e, tra le altre cose, in un corso universitario aperto a studenti di discipline scientifiche e umanistiche presso il Bard College di Berlino. Accanto alla ricerca, mi dedico con entusiasmo alla comunicazione scientifica e attività di divulgazione, sperimentando con vari formati tra cui il teatro e le letture pubbliche.
