Ksenija Joksimovic obtained a PhD in Human Sciences at the University of Verona in 2023, on the topic of Experiences of resilience of transgender and gender non-conforming (TGNC) social justice activists from 7 European countries (Greece, Italy, Serbia, Slovenia, Malta, Sweden and the UK), working on transgender human rights protection. All the subjects were involved in trans-specific or LGBTQI community organizations. Situated at the intersection of social justice education and critical community psychology, the research applied a socio-ecological conceptual framework to understand resilience experiences of TGNC social justice activists. The research identified resilience strategies and resilience risk and protective factors in different areas and levels of the social system, that promote or hinder resilience among TGNC activists and explored the role education and learning (formal, non-formal, informal) play in social justice activism and resilience development.

Ksenija has been working as a social justice educator and trainer for the past 10 years, predominantly on capacity building of social justice activists and youth workers working with socially marginalised groups. They were involved in activism in their home country Serbia until 2016 (when they moved abroad), mostly using the theatre of the oppressed methodology for community education and awareness raising on social justice issues, and on the international level as a member of the Executive Board and later a Chair of IGLYO - International LGBTQI Youth Organisation based in Brussels. They are a certified counsellor and have completed a 5-year long postgraduate training programme towards certification for a psychodrama psychotherapist, in their home country, Serbia.

They are an author of the book on Activist identity development of transgender social justice activists published by Brill Sense in 2020.
