The aim of this study is to critically re-examine the terminology used in wine tasting, both in professional settings and among general consumers. This need arises from the recognition that the current tools employed to categorize taste experiences (often under the umbrella of sensory experiences), such as grids, cards, and pictorial representations, are not grounded in experimental research from the field of cognitive science. In fact, a thorough analysis reveals that these tools are essentially a compilation of empirical experiences accumulated over time without ever undergoing rigorous experimental verification using the paradigms, methodologies, and psychophysical analyses employed in contemporary cognitive psychology laboratories.
