The Erasmus+ 2019 KA2 TACCLE AI project focuses on improving the skills and capacities of teachers and trainers (VET) in the age of artificial intelligence (AI). This project involves several European organizations from Germany, the United Kingdom, Greece, Italy, and Lithuania, joining forces to address modern educational challenges and prepare VET educators to integrate AI into their teaching programs. The main goal is to provide VET educators with the tools and knowledge needed to adapt to rapid technological changes, thereby improving the quality of professional education.

The project promotes innovative methods and open pedagogies by developing learning materials, tools and actions in the form of Open Educational Resources (OER) that support the effective use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). One of the key objectives is to extend the European Digital Competence Framework for Educators (DigiCompEdu) to include specific AI-related competencies. This framework will serve as a reference tool for the implementation of regional and national training programs.

Project activities include analyzing best practices, developing a toolkit for VET educators, creating a massive online course (MOOC) in AI available in English and German, and making recommendations for organizations involved in VET teacher education. The online course will be accessible to all VET teachers and trainers in Europe, and the course materials will be freely available to other organizations for professional development uses.

The project aims to actively engage educators in designing effective educational solutions, recognizing that technologists alone cannot design effective AI solutions for education. The implications of AI for the VET curriculum and for teaching and training in school and work settings are profound, and educators urgently need to participate in discussions about what needs to change. Ultimately, the TACCLE AI project aspires to modernize vocational education through the integration of AI, providing new opportunities to adapt learning content to student needs, improve assessment processes, and optimize teaching methodologies for better learning outcomes.
