Learning objectives

Knowledge and understanding At the end of the course students will be able to demonstrate the attainment of the following learning objectives: 1. knowledge and understanding of the main philosophical problems relevant to educational practice and of the related theories developed over the course of Western thought; 2. knowledge and understanding of the different methodologies available in the philosophical field, their theoretical implications and educational consequences; 3. Knowledge and understanding of the philosophical lexicon and its significance for the development of a technical terminology in the pedagogical field as well. Applying knowledge and understanding At the end of the course students will be able to demonstrate the attainment of the following learning objectives: 1. applying knowledge and understanding to possible scenarios taken from concrete educational activity; 2. applying knowledge and understanding to the reflection on situations in which the dignity of the person and crucial ethical issues determine the pedagogical practice; 3. applying knowledge and understanding to the identification and autonomous analysis of key concepts at the boundary between philosophy and pedagogy; 4. Development of a critical and independent attitude in approaching texts, authors, contexts and problems.

Prerequisites and basic notions

It is advisable to get a reasonable ability to understand and elaborate argumentative texts, to concentrate and to listen carefully. Any activity will in any case be guided by the teacher.

Program

An histórica view of the relationship between philosophy and education:
1) A general definition of the issue: the real conditions of learning; the origin of thinking; the relationship between education, critical attitude, and a "objectual" value of human being.
2) Birth of philosophical wisdom in Greece: the Greek civilization (polis, logos); Miletus school and Anaximander; Heraclitus.
3) Socrates; the new features of his method; the trial; his heritage between history and myth.
4) Plato: the world of Ideas and the origin of metaphysics; the theory of love (eros); the political problem and the pivotal role of education (paideia) with reference to the first two books of The Republic.
5) The cultural and historical changes from classical antiquity to the Christian age.
6) Humanism and a new idea of education.
7) Descartes and Le discours de la méthode: the refusal of tradition and the principle of authority; the new ideal of rationality and science; a new definition of subject.
8) The codification of human sciences at the turn of twentieth century: Durkheim; Freud.
9) The view of developmental psychology of Lev Vygotsky.
10) The educational problem in Lorenzo Milani.

Didactic methods

The course be divided into lectures that will be alternated with discussions led by the teacher. Particular attention will be given to reading and commenting on the texts. The plurality of didactic paths is designed according to the student, who will be provided with as broad a spectrum as possible of learning opportunities in order to guarantee the acquisition of both the knowledge and the skills set out in the training objectives.
The lectures will be recorded by Zoom, with a previous explanation on how to use them properly.

Learning assessment procedures

Oral exam (a dialogue on topics suggested by the teacher). The exam will aim to ascertain the achievement of the dual educational objectives of the course (knowledge / understanding and skills) with particular attention to the ability to compare the authors treated.

Students with disabilities or specific learning disorders (SLD), who intend to request the adaptation of the exam, must follow the instructions given HERE

Evaluation criteria

The evaluation criteria will be as follows: 1) possession of key information and notions; 2) ability to present clearly; 3) ability to analyze texts; 4) autonomy of thought.

Criteria for the composition of the final grade

The vote will be expressed out of thirty and substantially based on an overall evaluation according to the criteria listed above.

CONTAMINATION LAB 

The Contamination Lab Verona (CLab Verona) is an experiential course with modules on innovation and enterprise culture that offers the opportunity to work in teams with students from all areas to solve challenges set by companies and organisations.  

Upon completion of a CLab, students will be entitled to receive 6 CFU (D- or F-type credits).

PLEASE NOTE: In order to be admitted to any teaching activities, including those of your choice, you must be enrolled in the academic year in which the activities in question are offered. Students who are about to graduate in the December and April sessions are therefore advised NOT to undertake extracurricular activities in the new academic year in which they are not enrolled, as these graduation sessions are valid for students enrolled in the previous academic year. Therefore, students who undertake an activity in an academic year in which they are not enrolled will not be granted CFU credits.

Stage e Tirocini

Le ulteriori attività formative (crediti F) sono interamente coperte dall’attività di tirocinio “indiretto” (1 cfu) da svolgersi nel secondo anno e di tirocinio “diretto” (14 cfu) da svolgersi presso enti convenzionati per un numero complessivo di 15 cfu (375 ore). Chi è iscritta/o al curriculum servizi per l’infanzia è tenuta/o a svolgere il tirocinio presso nidi e servizi per la prima infanzia per almeno il 50% delle ore.
Il tirocinio professionalizzante (375 ore, pari a 15 cfu), è obbligatorio sia nella sua forma diretta che indiretta.
Il tirocinio indiretto, della durata di 25 ore a frequenza obbligatoria al 75%, si svolge in Università per 20 ore e in forma di lavoro individuale per 5 ore e consiste in un accompagnamento iniziale delle/degli studenti da parte dei tutor attraverso un percorso formativo dotandoli di conoscenze e strumenti adeguati a osservare, comprendere e rielaborare criticamente l’esperienza di tirocinio nei servizi educativi e ad affrontare il tirocinio negli enti con metodo e consapevolezza. Il percorso, da attuare in gruppi da 20-25 persone sotto la supervisione di un tutor, risponde alle esigenze costantemente espresse sia dalle/dagli studenti stessi sia dalle parti sociali che dai referenti degli enti convenzionati.
Il tirocinio diretto si propone di raggiungere i seguenti obiettivi:

  • fare esperienza diretta di attività professionali, che richiedono un livello di preparazione al lavoro educativo;
  • approfondire in particolare il rapporto tra preparazione teorica, acquisita mediante lo studio, ed esperienza pratica, tra mondo del sapere e della cultura e mondo del lavoro e delle professioni;

Al termine del tirocinio diretto lo studente deve presentare una relazione scritta, nella modalità concordata con il tutor accademico.
