Learning outcomes

The aim of the course is to provide basic knowledge about the biological networks underlying human behaviour, learning processes and educational activities. Furthermore, the various kinds of disabilities at the different life stages will be discussed. In addition, fundamental concepts of rehabilitation and their integration with educational activities will be discussed.

Introduction to Psychobiology
The biological basis of behaviour: from neurons to neuronal networks
The biological basis of perception
Cerebral plasticity
Attention, memory, language and executive functions
The organization of the action
The emotions and behaviour's control
Definitions of disease, disability and handicap
Fundamental concepts of rehabilitation: autonomy, individual activities, deficits and capacities, use of different techniques
Motivation and attributive style
Childhood: infantile cerebral paralysis, learning disorders, mental retardation
Adulthood: traumatic brain injury, spinal damage
Old age: mental deterioration
