Learning outcomes

Educational aims
The course aims to introduce the concept that, during the history of pedagogy, the work (as a fact) has not only been present, but has also been considered a fundamental element for education and for the formation of children, young and adult ones. So, the educational aim of the course consists in reinforcing the knowledge of the link between experience of work and educational and formative experience.
Particularly, the course is divided into two parts:
(1) monographic part: it is said why the work has an educational and formative dimension in itself;
(2) historic part: we will see some modern and contemporary authors, who are more significant from the point of view of the relation between formation and the work.

Programme
Contents
The course will deal with the following topics, related both to the historic and the monographic part:
-introductory elements of the relation between formation and the work;
-the work, education and formation in modern age (from the fifteenth to the eighteenth century), particularly Comenius and Rousseau;
-the work, education and formation in contemporary age (nineteenth century), particularly Dewey and Maritain.

Teaching Methods
Lessons will be frontal in the main, with the possibility to intervene with questions, debates related to the themes of the day.

The exam consists of a three-hour written text. It consists of 6 open questions of different types. (e.g.: descriptive, summarising, argumentative type, analysis and comment of a sentence, etc.).
