An introduction to the theoretical and methodological instruments offered by performing arts, through the analysis of specific issues of the history of theatre.
The unequalled inventor of the middle-class drawing-room theatre, Henrik Ibsen depicts with a clear and inexorable mind the dryness of the relationships and the brutality of the instincts in the society of his age. Employing new Italian translations of Ibsen’s most famous plays – translations which are particular careful not to misunderstand the performative codes conceived by the Norwegian author –, the hypocrisies and passions hidden by the labyrinthical and claustrophobical conception of Ibsen’s drawing-rooms will be revealed.
Teaching methods: Lectures and analysis of primary and secondary sources such as archival fonts, iconography, performance recordings, films, videos, audio recordings, etc.
