Learning outcomes

The course aims to show how the educational and pedagogical practice needs a theoretical consideration of philosophical nature. Indeed, we cannot think the educator needs only a technical, psychological and social training; he needs moreover to became able of thinking about education in an autonomous and critical way, that is free and responsible. The educator who is aware of this priority, feels obliged to recognise his preparation must run on different and complementary cultural levels. Some of these levels may have more acting aspects, others may appear more abstract and less functional.
Based on that general purpose, the course intends to achieve three formative objectives, related to the three parts into which it is divided:
(1)general part: themes, problems, concepts that are essential to learn and think of education from the philosophical point of view;
(2)monographic part: the value of experience, as the point of fundamental reference for the educational practice and the pedagogical thinking;
(3)personal investigation: deep thinking on the view of man and on his task in life, as it emerges from the classical philosophical ancient thought, and evaluate its application nowadays.
