Lesson timetable

Learning outcomes

This seminar is aimed at exploring the core conceptual tools to interpret the social representations of health, disease and sickness, and the different life styles coming from them. The lessons are divided into two parts. The first part (30 hours) is organized around 4 main topics:
a)The distinction between individual physical health and the health of societies
b)The social constructions of the normal and the pathological
c)The meanings of the different medical practices and their consequences in terms of collective imaginary
d)The body as a site of conflict between social representations
The second part (10 hours) lessons deal with the concept of “risky behaviours”, in particular psychotropic substance use practices will be discussed.
