Learning outcomes

The course aims to explore, through a critical and reflexive approach, reading promotion strategies, activities and methods, drawing suggestion from children’s literature, in order to provide education professionals with the appropriate knowledge.

Syllabus

The semester’s themes are:
the means of “cultural animation” and reading promotion; the purposes and objectives of “reading education” and “reading promotion”; projects, events, activities, methods for promotion the pleasure of reading fiction books for children and young readers; a critical reflection about the usual comprehension strategies (questions, discussions, exercises….) and interpretation of fiction books; international and italian programmes of reading promotion in early age (0- 6); activities of reading promotion in bookshops, libraries, cultural and recreation centres and toy and game centre; the use of creative writing for reading promotion: Gianni Rodari and his art of inventing stories.

Assessment methods and criteria

The exam consists of two-hours’ written text based on argumentative and reflexive open-questions. To take with you the paper on reading promotion’s project the day of the exam.
