The course aims at deepening the main issues concerning political philosophy.

Syllabus

Contents of the course: Recognition politics. Reading Hegel again . The course aims at analysing the concept and the practice of recognition (Anerkennung) described by Hegel in Phenomenology of the Spirit. The course investigates the connection between recognition of the other and self-construction, with particular attention to the political dimension of recognition. Which are the limits of Hegel’s theory? Reading some of the contemporary interpretations should answer this question.
