Learning outcomes

The course aims at providing an introduction to some relevant issues concerning with meaning in natural language and with the tradition of ancient philosophy. The connection between language and communication will be the center of the course and it will be illustrated throughout guidelines layed out by Frege, Wittgenstein, Quine, Putnam, Chomsky, Kripke, Fodor and Grice.

Syllabus

Contents of the course: Fundamental concepts of Language Philosophy: from frege to Fodor.
The issue of meaning and reference. Cognitive and pragmatic perspective: language as a cognitive structure and as a whole of regulating principles into linguistic structures
